The Law Fresher's Week is an indelible tradition orchestrated by the Executive Officials of the Students' Society, and primarily aimed at welcoming the first year students into the prestigious Faculty of Law, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko. The one-week usually features interesting games and events, in-school and outside-school touring, etc.. And for this 2022/23 academic session, under the astute leadership of the President of the Society, Adelaju Amos (Alaafin), the incumbent administration has further cemented the groundwork previously laid by his predecessors, thereby ensuring a seamless, aesthetic transition as the scheduled activities for the Law Freshers' Week officially kick off today with the tagged name, "The New Wave".
The schedule for the upcoming days, specifically from the 15th to the 19th of May 2023, includes the following events:
Monday: Internal Tour, orientation and talk
Tuesday: A heated debate and legal dispute.
Wednesday: A social gathering for new students, known as the "Fresher's Picnic."
Thursday: An unconventional football match between the established Staylites and the incoming Freshmen
Friday: an organized visit to the court, an educational outing, and a celebratory party for the new students, commonly referred to as the "Fresher's party."
As scheduled, the "Internal Tour, Orientation and Talk" took place today, Monday, May 15, 2023. The session made provision not only for more engagements and acquaintances of the new freshmen with the faculty standards as they begin their tertiary academic journey, but also to rave in the new aesthetic feelings.
The tour started rather late due to some circumstances, but nonetheless, 'the show must go on'. Buses were provided for the transport of students from the Moot Court, where they initially converged, down to the Security Unit. There, the freshmen were subtly introduced to Seye Alademoni (the acting security officer), three Assistant Security Officers and the Principal Security Officer of the Unit. The Acting Security Officer gave a low-down on the rudiments of security operations at the university. Issues pertaining to the unit, such as, the mode of dressing, cultism, our relationship with fellow students, the need for an ID card, and exam malpractice, were emphasized during the meeting. The ACP stressed: "...We, the lawmakers, should not be the lawbreakers."
Prior to the arrival at the next stop, which was at the University's Senate Building, the tour guide allowed the students to enjoy amazing aesthetic scenery within the University premises.
Returning back to the Moot Court, Jazparo, the Faculty Public Relations Officer, anchored the talk and introduced notable personalities in the persons of Adesina Mayowa (the former President of the Society) and Dr. Victor Ayeni (Lecturer of the Faculty of Law) to the freshmen, and the latter were subsequently lectured on tips on becoming a better student and the importance of balancing political, social, and academic activities as a student.
Dr. Ayeni spoke on the importance of law students mastering constitutional provisions and cases and the application of both to real-life experiences. Among many other things, he stressed, "confidence beats competence", "don't miss classes," He said "As such, it is an evidence of pride" and the need to develop their Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at an early stage.
The third speaker, Barrister Oladimeji Oyesusi, a lawyer of great reputation who happened to graduate from this faculty and was a former LSS president, emphasized time as an asset. He encouraged the students to identify their strengths and weaknesses, study hard, participate in faculty activities, and build relationships.
Shortly after, refreshments were served, the President took the vote of thanks, and the Welfare Officer, p.k.a Busolami took the closing prayer.

Upon discussing with our colleagues, we were able to gather their opinions regarding the first day of the freshers' week.

I think the executives have done a good job but work needs to be done about the schedule. The lectures were nice. The guest speakers spoke really well about social life etc. They spoke very well. I'm inspired and encouraged.
It was a stressful day but we learnt a lot. Law is not all about book, there's time to jaiye. -Abigael
"Personally, the tour was exciting. The security office was well welcomed. I noted a lot of things talked about then. The peak was the lecture we had in the moot court. The topics taught were worthy of note. There could be well planned transportation, though." -Tobibitan

The feedback we got from fellow students gave us the reassurance that the Law Students Society is definitely doing a great job in engaging and preparing us for the journey ahead. We can't wait to see what they have in store for us and we hope we'll be enjoying every single moment.
