The Executives of the Law Students Society (LSS) continue to make massive efforts in bringing the best for the Freshers as their Fresher's Week commenced yesterday. We will recall that Monday's event contained an internal tour, orientation and talk from different personalities that greatly inspired the Freshers to go above and beyond.
Today, Tuesday 16th of May, 2023, the War of Words programme and the First Edition of the Fresher's Students Moot Competition took place among four different public chambers namely Akinola Aguda, Kayode Esho, Gani Fawehinmi and Olakunle Orojo Public Chambers.
The chain of events began with the opening prayer by Favour Akinsulu, a 100 level student. Jazparo, the anchor and the Public Relations Officer of the Society introduced the judges that would be presiding over the debate competition. The 100 level students showed great deal of knowledge and understanding as they opposed and supported the motion “_whether or not the presence of the Judiciary and the Constitution is justice prevailing in the 21st Century_”. Some of the debaters have their best with one particular student quoting Martin Luther King Jr's famous words "Injustice anywhere is a threat to Justice everywhere" and another debater focusing on the saying; "Justice delayed is Justice denied". The judges gave their concise corrections and praises after the debate.
The next part of the program was the Poetry and Spoken Words Section. Four participants came out and bedazzled is with their presentations. They were also graded by the judges.
Finally, the event of the day had arrived. The Moot competition began with the appearance of the judges. The audience rose to welcome them and the Chamber heads were called alongside the representatives for the Moot Competition.
The first sitting was between Akinola Aguda Chamber and Gani Fawehinmi Chamber. The lead-counsel, T.F Ajayi opened the floor for the competition to commence. She and her co-counsels got their pleading across to the judges . In return, Gani Fawehinmi chamber led by lead-counsel, A.K. Akinola as well got his points across and then a recess was taken.
The second part of the moot competition was between Kayode Eso Chamber and Olakunle Orojo Entertainment Chamber. The lead counsel of Kayode Eso and Olakunle Orojo were F.A Yusuf and E.O Itanrin respectively. They as well as their co-counsels advocated their briefs before the court.
A deliberation was made soon after all the pleadings were heard.
Winners were soon called for the different competitions that took place. The winner of the debate competition was Miss Akinyemi Oluwatosin while the first runner up was Olaide Comfort, the second runner up for the debate was Samuel Precious and the third runner up was Adebare Onipede.
The War on Words/Poetry Competition also had The winner, first runner up, second runner up and third runner up in persons of Akin-Ademola Emmanuel, Oluwatobiloba Oluwabitan, Omoniyi Faith and Akinsulu Favour respectively.
The announcement for the winners for the Moot Competition came in the following order:
-The declaration of Price for the Best Chamber in the Moot Competition; Akinola Aguda Chamber tied with Kayode Eso to take home the second runner up position. Gani Fawehinmi Chamber was announced as the first runner up while Olakunle Orojo emerged the overall winner for the Fresher’s Moot Competition.
Eniola Itanrin and Ajibola Damilola emerged as the Best female counsel and Best male counsel respectively and were applauded by their peers. Congratulations to the people and chambers taht emerged as winners of the Competitions.
This concluded the Day Two of the Fresher's Week.

Meeting with the 100 level students, we were able to get some responses as to how they felt about the Competition.
I'm very happy about the results because the winning chamber deserved it. Something that needs to be worked on is the heat in the Moot Court. There was no electricity and lack of a good sound system.—Zee

Tomorrow's event is the Fresher's Picnic and we know with the responses we've received that the Freshers are waiting in anticipation for the rest of events of the week.
