The newly appointed members of the Board of Justice (BOJ) were inaugurated today, June 16, 2023, as scheduled despite the imminent turmoil surrounding it as disclosed by Legal Kekenke earlier today. The inauguration was held at the Moot Court, and graced with the attendance of the President, Adelaju Amos and the BOJ appointees.

The inauguration proceeding commenced a few minutes past 2:00 PM. The anthem of the society was recited in adherence to the protocol. The President, who also presided over the event set the tone for the event by delivering some speech that encompassed words of caution and encouragement to the newly appointed members. He emphasized the importance of considering the voices of the people and upholding justice throughout their tenure. During his address, he digressed briefly to discuss the appointment of one BOJ member known as Lord Shiva, and thereafter referencing the Congress as the highest decision-making body in the society.

Subsequently, he officially announced the appointment of the President of the Temple of Justice, Hon. Justice Isreal (500-level), and the Chief Justice of the Board of Justice, Hon. Justice Deji Olomoko (500-level), pursuant to the constitution.

Following this announcement, the President proceeded to administer the Oath of office to the appointees, who echoed the same words in unison. The individuals who were formally inaugurated as members of the Board of Justice are as follows:

  1. Olomoko Deji — 500lvl
  2. Adebayo Similoluwa—500lvl
  3.  Peter Emmanuel—500lv
  4. Olorunfemi Niyi Israel—400lvl
  5. Adewole Ayomide—400lvl
  6. Aminat Sulaimon—300lvl
  7. Kingdom babalola—300lvl

In tandem with this, he extended an invitation to the Chief Justice of the Board of Justice to address the members. The Chief Justice in his address emphasized the importance of maintaining a professional demeanor and avoiding undue familiarity in order to uphold justice. Furthermore, he urged the members to refrain from allowing any external influences to compromise their decision-making process, underscoring the significance of their roles as esteemed members of the Board of Justice.

It is worth noting that today's inauguration ceremony was a clear defiance to the annulment broadcast issued out by the Law Students' Representative Council (LSRC) to the President, as well as the members of the society. In light of this development, it raises the question of a potential power tussle between the President and the LSRC, as the latter  seeks recourse through the Students Judicial Council to assert and defend their positions.

In Niyi Osundare's poem, he writes:

"The Lion stakes his claim
To the leadership of the pack...
The hyena says the crown is made for him
But the Impalas shudder at his lethal appetite...
The Elephant trudges into the power tussle
But its colleagues dread his trampling feet"
The Leaders And The Led, Niyi Osundare.

Which begs the questions that makes one wonder— Is this the beginning of a power tussle between both arms of government of the society for this administration? Would the decision of the Congress override the provisions of the constitution? How would the LSRC react to such defiance?
