LSRC V. PRESIDENT: THE STAFF ADVISER INTERVENTION, THE LSRC'S PLENARY SESSION PLAUSIBLE POSTPONEMENT

LSRC V. PRESIDENT: THE STAFF ADVISER'S INTERVENTION, THE LSRC'S PLENARY SESSION PLAUSIBLE POSTPONEMENT; AN ABRUPT END TO AN IMMINENT POWER STRUGGLE?

Lss AAUA

We will recall that there is to be a face off in court between the counsels of the Law Students’ Representative Council and the President of the Law Students’ Society and Ors. The dispute revolves around the President's ratification and inauguration of the members of the Board of Justice (BOJ), which has resulted in a contempt summons being issued to the President, requiring their appearance in court today at 2pm on June 20, 2023.

Yesterday, Legal Kekenke received information from an undisclosed source indicating that Dr. Akin Olawale Oluwadayisi, the Staff Adviser, has intervened with an aim to resolve the matter outside of the courtroom. Dr. Oluwadayisi is advocating for a settlement between the two parties involved.

At the moment, neither party has provided a definitive response regarding as to whether they'd go ahead with the scheduled proceedings despite the Staff Adviser's intervention. Nevertheless, this unanticipated development has prompted the Law Students' Representative Council to give a hint of a potential postponement of the plenary session, originally slated to hold today until after they have had a physical meeting with the staff adviser, and if the postponement becomes even more plausible, an official announcement will be duly made to inform the public accordingly.

This sudden intervention has however led to a lot of suppositions as to what might be and what might not regarding the matter. Will the parties be opting for the face off in court or an out of court settlement? Will this be an abrupt end to an imminent power clash between the SEC and LSRC?

Let’s watch as it unfolds!
