Odunayo Adekuroye, the three-time Commonwealth medalist, has vowed to clinch her first Olympic medal at the Paris 2024 Games. The Nigerian wrestler secured her place at the upcoming Olympics after winning the bronze medal in the women's 57kg category at the recent World Wrestling Championships in Serbia.
Adekuroye, who has previously competed at the Olympics in London and Rio, is determined to make amends for her disappointing performances in the past. "Winning at the Olympic Games will be a huge success for me, and I'll work hard and give it all within me to make sure I'm on the podium come Paris 2024 because I have worked hard to be there, and I deserve to come away with something this time," she said.
The 30-year-old wrestler, who defeated her Turkish opponent 9-5 in her third place fight to secure her Paris ticket, is optimistic about her chances of success in 2024. "I am going to sit down with my coach and plan what to do at this competition because I am tired of missing out, and I have extra hunger now," she added.
Adekuroye's bronze medal win in Serbia was a significant achievement for Nigerian wrestling, as it marked the country's first-ever medal at the World Wrestling Championships. With her sights set on Olympic gold, Adekuroye is determined to continue making history for Nigerian sports.
