The Executive members of the ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES LAW CLUB, AAUA led by the President; Eniolorunda Bankole-Adams met with the Dean of the Faculty of Law on Wednesday, 14th of February, 2024.
The visit to the Dean was out of the need to further cement a quality bond with the faculty and also intimate same regarding the Club's activities and achievements within the short spam of its establishment and also to seek the assistance of the faculty to help in promoting the knowledge of the Energy and Natural Resources Sector, its laws and policies within the institution.
During the meeting, the Dean expressed his delight in the club's initiative of having a body focused on the energy sector in the faculty. He shared anecdotes of certain lawyers during preliminary time who referred to themselves as "Telecommunication lawyers" and how same were made jest of. However, he emphasized that those young lawyers then like Mr Olusoro has now became experts in the field of Telecommunications in Nigeria by immersing time and resources in intensive research as no material was readily available in the field at the time.
He further encouraged the members of the Executives to follow suit and become obsessed with the pursuit of the acquisition of knowledge with regards to the energy and power sector. He recommended the incorporation of debates and essay competitions into club's agenda to enhance participation and engagement.
To this end, the Energy Executives unanimously agreed that the Club's first essay competition will be held sometimes this semester in the name of the Dean.
Encouraging financial commitment from members, the Dean highlighted the need for recognition to foster the mission and purpose of the Club through impact-filled activities and also to attract external support.
In his words; "To have impactful activities we have to be financially committed to the course of the club."
Finally, the Dean stressed the importance of oneness within members of the Executive Board to achieve great feats and build a credible presence within the faculty and beyond.
In addition, the Dean intimated the Board on possible collaborations which are in view - between the faculty and other intellectuals in the field to liaise with the Ministry of Power on the establishment of Energy Clinics in universities with the purpose of offering opportunities to emerging legal practitioners in the Sector and pledged a sum of ₦20,000 to the cause of the Club.
The meeting ended with the President, Eniolorunda appreciating the Dean for receiving the Executive Board and thanked him for his guidance and continuous support in the advancement of the purpose of the Club.
He pledged that he alongside members of his Board will thoroughly pilot the affairs of the Club with integrity and zeal and make the faculty proud.
