L.K: Once again, congratulations on your win again Can you give us a rundown on how you came about the competition?
G_keyz: Well... We got to know about it from an LSSite and it was infact with short notice. The deadline for submission of memorial was less than 6 days. The Attorney General had to reach out to certain LSSites for the brief writing. Fortunately, we concluded before the deadline and we qualified for the semi finals which is the oral round and the road led down here.
L.K: What was the preparation process in getting to the finals?
Eniola : Getting to the final stage was not a total bed of roses because we had worthy opponents. I could remember when the semi finals was going, we were shocked to know the identify of one the counsels. We were able to scale through that with the help of God, our AG, personal research, Barrister Matthew and collective responsibility.
L.K: How does winning feel?
Gbade: Sincerely, I can't explain the feeling. All I know is winning comes with a different kind of feeling.
L.K: What motivated you to achieve this feat?
G_keyz : Actually, there are a lot of things that motivated my team and I. At first, the price looks captivating however, this is more like an opportunity for us to test our purported proficiency with other colleagues out there.
Honestly, we faced admirable opponents and it looked as if we weren't going to make it, but we focused on ourselves and made sure we did the best we could. In short, aside going for the glory, this is a way of projecting our passion for development and promoting our patriotism to the society through excellence.
L.K: Would you be willing to go through the whole process again?
Gbade : YES, I would go through the whole process again. This is because moot preparations develops me and it has helped me expand my knowledge of law. It has helped me understand a lot about the court system that we are not taught in class.
L.K: What emotions were you exactly feeling during the competition?
Eniola: I did experience different emotions when the competition was ongoing. At first we were calm, then trying to master our briefs, do research and perfect our speech, but towards the end of the competition, it was really tough but we kept our spirits high and thankfully we came out victorious.
L.K: What advice can you give people who would love to participate and succeed in the mooting world like you have?
Eniola: I've always been an advocate for mooting as there are a lot of benefits embedded in and attached to it. You get to improve your advocacy, boost your confidence and even get access to a lot of opportunities. You can always begin from participating in your chamber activities and research work. Overtime, as you involve yourself in chamber activities, you'd be surprised.
G_keyz : Honestly, I tell people that, as a student in this school we are disadvantaged in several ramifications, however, what makes the difference is your passion and conviction for excellence. This is the drive that stands you out and avail you opportunities to ascertain your position with other colleagues out there.
Therefore, decide to follow that pathway. Be enthusiastic towards this and seek guidance. Keep trying until you can overcome your fears. If you start now, you can still win a gold medal.
Gbade : I don't know if I am in the best position to advise someone about mooting activities but what I can say is, if you want to succeed in mooting activities you just need to be involved in chamber activities and join research work.
Involving in the research work would really help you argue better, once you understand the issues and you know the laws required to tackle those issues then you're good to go.
