The election began around 9:00 AM, with election agents voting first, followed by the students. By 10:45, voters were coming and going to cast their ballots.
Security officers at the entrance screened voters using student ID cards to confirm their status as law students. Voters walked up to the agents seated in the voting unit and were given the ballot papers according to their levels. They were marked on their thumbs as an indication that they’ve voted.
We spoke with Adeniyi Taiwo, the general secretary of the electoral committee. He informed us that the dean of the Faculty of Law had been notified of and approved the election. He also noted that two security officers, as requested from the CSO of the security unit, were provided.
When asked if there were any changes to the SEC’s process this year, Taiwo said it remained the same as in previous years. He mentioned that voter turnout was fair but not as high as last year's.
A steady stream of voters continued as supporters of the aspirants campaigned among the students. One voter shared that the process was smooth and that it was the first time she received proper guidance, with SEC members directing her to the ballot boxes and explaining how to vote correctly.
At one point, the assistant Chief Security Officer arrived to check on the process. He said the SEC had informed them about the election and that two security officers were assigned to the venue. He expressed trust in the law students’ ability to maintain order, though he advised them to avoid irrational behavior and ensure a peaceful election.

oting continued until around 1:50 PM, when a scuffle broke out, halting the process. The DSA intervened to resolve the issue, and voting was extended until 3:00 PM.
The former dean of the faculty of law also visited and admonished everyone to avoid sabotaging the election process.
Voting concluded shortly after 3:00 PM, and the counting of votes began. We look forward to the results.
